A Quiz for Teachers
Choosing the Right Response to Classroom Disruptions
Good morning, everyone.
Teachers give quizzes every day.
But today…
I have a quiz for the teachers.
Not a graded quiz…
Not a pop quiz…
But a simple gut check.
Imagine you’re teaching…
Everything is going well…
And suddenly…
A student starts talking.
Or tapping a pencil.
Or scrolling on a cell phone.
Now here’s the question.
Which response is more effective?
Option One:
“Johnny! Stop talking! Be quiet and do your work!”
Or…
Option Two:
“Johnny… we need closed mouths and note-taking, please.
Both address the behavior.
