I saw a Rush tribute band last night and the show was amazing. They played many hits and many deep tracks. We come for the hits, but we stay for the deep tracks. Now of course this statement may not be entirely true, but I mention it for pure illustration purposes. During this intense political season, we all must remind ourselves that elections will come and go, but family, faith, and friendships must remain. We all want a free and fair election, but when we send billions of dollars sent to other countries, it is not because we are so giving as many of us would like to think. There are plenty of incentives to “rig” or even cheat in an election because the stakes are so high, the “backdoor dealings” are too delicious and the money, fame, power, influence, and adrenaline highs make the ring of power that drains Bilbo Baggins tame. We want to believe that our leaders have enough integrity to resist the siren song, but we all know better, yet we cannot abandon hope. We come together to discuss, disagree and attempt to resolve problems peacefully, but we remain because of the laughter, memories, and love of family and friendships.
