How are you smart?
Many people ask, “how smart are you?” There are so many things wrong with that statement. It implies that there is only one kind of smart. Howard Gardner introduced the theory of multiple intelligences and he introduced the idea of not how smart are you but how are you smart?
I would tell my students to imagine if the standard of intelligence was to put an engine together. I would be legally labeled a moron (although that is not right either). Each student is smart in his/her own way, and together, we can cover all the “smart bases.”
Students must be responsible for their behavior, but some students need to be hands on; they need to be moving to be at their best, so instead of creating a lesson that involves no movement, get up and create an activity that gets them moving!
